Urgently:”NUSOJ Condemns the Act of Suppression Against Journalist’s access to Mogadishu airport”

NUSOJ.ORG.SO: The National Union of Journalists has condemns in the strongest possible terms the suppression move against journalists’ to have an access to Mogadishu airport during Somalia’s election issued by the General Manager of Mogadishu Airport Security General Abdi Abshir Jaamac on Tuesday 21st of September 2016 The decision from airport authority bans journalists for sixty days to have access to Mogadishu airport to cover all public activities and denies the rights of the Somali people to know the truth and what is going on during election period.

According to the official letter from Mogadishu airport General Manager, anyone who violates this move will be meeting a company fine, jail time and will also be banned from entering airport at all, “NUSOJ considers this move which is against openly the freedom of speech, freedom of media and movement and the rights of citizens to have access to independent information wherever appropriate” Secretary General of National Union of Somali journalists Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu said

We firmly stand and committed to defend press freedom and free speech and negate any sorts of violence in the media,critical and constructive media accountable to the public is the base of every democratic society.”Mr. Moalimuu added
