NUSOJ concludes a two-day Training on Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Safety of Journalists for 25 Reporters in Garowe.

Attendance Certificates were awarded to 25 journalists who completed a two-day training on Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Safety of journalists held in Garowe ,the capital city of Puntland from 17– 18 Dec 2017, the second of series of training planned to be implemented across Somalia with the support of United Nation Assistance Mission For Somalia (UNSOM).

The training is aimed to enhance Somali journalists’ understanding of Somali conflict root-causes, drivers and triggers including structural violence that underpin and sustain the protracted community conflicts and violent extremism
To develop the professional capacity of Somali journalists on promoting peace, tolerance and conflict-sensitive reporting and enabling journalists in critical ways of producing unbiased reporting

In his opening remarks of the journalist training in Garowe the State Minster of Puntland Ministry of Information Honorable Ashkir Nur Puntland Ministry of Information welcomes the training of the 25 journalists in Garowe and encourage participants to take advantage of the training provided by NUSOJ with the support of UNSOM.

“I hope that when the training ends it should make concrete change to the significant work you do to the public “ Misnter Ashkir added.

“It is a great honor for to come to Garowe to conduct this training of journalists, and we would like to thank journalists in Puntland and their media association MAP and also the Puntland Ministry of Information for your warm welcome. This also encourages us to strengthen our relationship and cooperation with you.” Mahir Jama Aden NUSOJ President said.

“I believe that a lot of benefits have been gained during the two days training and I hope that we participants will serve the knowledge we gained from this training to our community” Halima Abdullahi Ali a participant from Radio Garowe said.
The opening of the workshop was also attended by former NUSOJ President Burhaan Ahmed Dahir, who suggested encouraging words for journalists participating in the training
Another participant, Jama Abdirahman Ahmed from Jubbaland TV , said that they have benefited the training and obtained huge knowledge, I ask for NUSOJ to continue such training as they will only boost our reporting capabilities.
Secretary General of National Union Of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu thanked to UNSOM for their support saying without their assistance it would not be possible to conduct this training
